ELEMENT 29 METALCRAFT
ABOUT THE STUDIO
Element 29 Metalcraft focuses on handcrafted metal artwork and custom fabrication using traditional metalworking techniques. All work is designed, built and finished in Raleigh, North Carolina using hands-on methods centered on durability, craftsmanship and attention to detail.
The name Element 29 refers to copper, a core material in much of the work. Used in art, tools and architecture for thousands of years, copper is well suited for metalwork due to its formability, strength and natural color. Bronze, brass, steel and other metals are also used when they best match the structure, finish or intent of a piece.
100% HANDMADE
Original Designs: All work is original and one-of-a-kind. Not copied or mass-produced. The work is created without the use of production molds.
High Quality Materials: Made from solid metals like copper, bronze, brass and steel. Materials are chosen for durability, workability and appearance.
Crafted by Hand: Each piece is shaped, assembled and finished by hand using traditional metalworking techniques. No automated or factory processes are used.
Attention to Detail: Care is taken at every stage, from layout and forming to finishing and final assembly. A meticulous approach ensures each project meets our high standards.
MEET THE ARTIST
JEREMY MARONPOT
Jeremy Maronpot is the artist behind Element 29 Metalcraft. Jeremy made all the artwork featured on this site, and also works in collaboration with other artists and fabricators when additional skills or labor are needed.
Jeremy earned a BFA in Art with a concentration in Metal Design from East Carolina University, a program accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). He continued training through studio-based workshops, and by working under artists Andrew Preiss and Alvin Frega.
Jeremy has been designing and building original metal artwork since the late 1990s. His work draws on a range of techniques including forming, forging, embossing, repousse, welding, patination and fabrication using sheet metal and solid stock. Projects range from jewelry to decorative artwork, sculpture and custom commissions.
He works primarily with copper and other malleable metals, chosen for their natural beauty and ability to be stretched, shaped and formed. The resulting work is often biomorphic and tactile. Built by forging and welding, but shaped in a way that feels grown rather than constructed.
Jeremy's work has been shown in group exhibitions at institutions including the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh and the Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art. He has collaborated on numerous projects, and worked in metal shops and classrooms as both a student and instructor.
As artwork becomes more mass-produced, commoditized and commercialized, traditional metalworking methods like his are increasingly rare.
